The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards survey was made available through a secure website at cntraveler.com/vote. This year’s tabulation of results from hundreds of thousands of respondents who submitted ratings during the sweepstakes period of April 1 through June 30, 2022, was done by Condé Nast. The questionnaire contained lists of candidates in various categories (Cities, Hotels, et cetera). Candidates must receive a required minimum number of responses and a minimum overall rating to be eligible for a Readers’ Choice Award. Candidates are judged on a set of criteria relevant to their category, based on a standard five-point scale converted to a percentage: excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor. The average of these ratings determines the final score based on four decimal points, with two decimal points being published. For example, the score of 97.79 for The Chatwal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, New York City, the No. 1 hotel in New York City, represents the average of ratings that the hotel received from respondents for all criteria relevant: rooms, service, food, design, location, and activities/facilities—plus, this year, cleanliness, community, concierge, experience, safety, accessibility, and remote work.
