1) Lower cost of living – The cost of living in Portland is much lower than in California. This means that you will be able to save a lot of money if you move here.
2) More affordable housing options – In California, there is a shortage of housing for everyone, especially for young families. But in Oregon, homes are abundant for sale and rent, which makes it easier for people to find a place to live without spending all their savings on rent or mortgage payments.
3) Less traffic congestion and fewer accidents – Oregon has less traffic congestion compared to other states because we have fewer freeways compared to other states like California where most roads are built as highways or interstates so that they can accommodate more vehicles at once (especially during rush hours). This makes it easier for us to get from one place to another without having to wait in long lines of cars or spend hours stuck on the road because there’s an accident ahead of us.
4) The weather – Portland has a reputation for being one of the rainiest cities in the United States, but that doesn’t mean it’s always raining there! It rains less than 50 days per year on average.
5) It’s affordable – Portland is generally more affordable than other major cities on the West Coast, and even more so than its neighbors Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. A recent report from Apartment List found that Portland has the third-lowest median rent among the 50 largest U.S. metro areas, with only Detroit and Cleveland beating it out. And while certain parts of town are more expensive than others, anyone who can find an apartment within their budget will find plenty of opportunities to save money here.
6) There are great jobs – In addition to being affordable, Portland also offers plenty of job opportunities for those who want them — particularly for those in creative fields like tech or design. According to The Atlantic Cities’ recent ranking of “Best Cities for Tech Jobs,” Portland came in second place behind San Jose, California.
7) The food – Food is delicious in Portland but not so much in California. The only thing that’s good about California cuisine is tacos but even then it’s not enough to save the rest of their food from being bland and unappetizingly bland.
Portland has become the new California
The city is booming with tech jobs, breweries, and hipsters. The streets are packed with cyclists and pedestrians. And the rent is rising faster than ever before.
All of this makes Portland a great place to live, but it’s also attracting people from all over the country – including California.
In 2016 alone, more than 20,000 people moved to Portland from other states. That’s according to Census Bureau data compiled by real estate website Redfin, which found that 1 out of every 5 people moving into Oregon was coming from California.
The reason for this exodus? Housing costs. At least that’s what Redfin found when it surveyed 2,400 people who relocated to Portland between 2014 and 2017: nearly half said high home prices were their main reason for leaving California.
